A Commissioner for Declarations is a person who carries out a public service by being an authorised witness to sign important documents for members of the community, such as:

• Statutory Declarations
• Certify a copy of an original document
• As a witness for administrative documents

For official or legal documents, you may still require a Justice of the Peace. The document will often state if it requires a special witness.
